How does AOK operate?
We receive referrals from a whole host of organisations / government services. For example Social Services, Women's refuges, homeless shelters, temporary accommodations to name but a few!
The referral is received at AOK and we shout out to the AOK community to see what they can support with. Whether that is time to help someone pick up a food parcel from the food bank, to decorating a person in needs home to donating items to help alleviate poverty. Items can be delivered directly to the person or to the agency requesting the items. We also carry out community projects and Acts of kindness in the community where it may be needed.
We have a container which is full of essentials which is distributed where necessary.
Fire Responders - We respond to House fires where residents have sadly lost their belongings. We operate a co-ordinated community response so that the families are not overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers in the initial stages of being victim to a fire. We will act as an intermediary to take the pressure off of the family by asking the community for donations in two different phases
Phase 1 - Essentials such as toiletries and clothing.
Phase 2 - Once the families / individuals know where they are being housed we will assist in gathering furniture for their property. It must be advised that sometimes they live in temporary accommodation so it means that the person doesn't have an awful lot of space.
We continue to support them throughout this time.
We ask that people support us through our AOK Supporters programme which information can be found here - https://do-it.org/organisations/acts-of-kindness-community-solent
We are a firm believer in that we call those that want to be involved with AOK 'supporters' as you are supporting the community you are living in, as opposed to the word 'volunteer'. We believe any commitment you can give to the cause is an incredible blessing to the AOK Community.
If you would like to help Support AOK we believe that any time given, any item given is so so valuable to the community we are serving. Any time you can give is most welcome, whether that is one hour / half an hour!
It really does matter to the recipient.
